Ola Szmidt is a singer-songwriter, musician, flautist and producer based in York. The Steve Reid Award winner, funded by PRSF and has been mentored by Four Tet.
Her music shifts between Scandinavian and Eastern Folk traditions, whilst including Soul, Jazz, Contemporary Classical and Ambient practices. She writes and sings in both English and her mother tongue, Polish. She produced and self-published her debut Ep1 on December 1st, 2017. The record was compiled and mastered by Kieran Hebden.
Ola holds BA degree in Music Technology and Performance from DMU University and studied Jazz Improvisation with legendary free jazz improvisers Keith and Julie Tippett under the bursary program at the International Summer School in Dartington. Since 2014 she has been a moderator at Fresh On The Net.
