Our New Board Members

Following a busy summer delivering projects big and small all over the country, supporting artists and building for the future, we’re so excited to be taking the organisation to a new level by welcoming 4 new additions to our Board of Trustees! They’ve hit the ground running with their first board meeting this morning. All of the additions are sector leading artists, producers, curators and writers, and we’re honoured to have them join the organisation. A little more on the new Trustees below:

 

Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino is an Internet of things author, consultant, public speaker and entrepreneur with a background in industrial and interaction design. She wrote ‘Creating a Culture of Innovation’ (2020) and ‘Smarter Homes’ (2018), as well as the initiator of the London Internet of Things Meetup between 2011 and 2020.

As a designer and consultant she worked on projects that are now in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the London Design Museum. The studio she co-founded, Tinker London, was the first UK distributor of the open source electronics platform Arduino. She is on the board of Trustees of The Restart Project, a charity that focuses on ‘right to repair’ issues. She was also on the board of advisors of VIRT-EU Horizon 2020 project about ethics in the internet of things. She was named 1st in a list of 100 Internet of Things Influencers (Postscapes, 2016), 2nd in Top 100 Internet of Things Thought Leaders (Onalytica, 2014) and in the Top 100 Influencial Tech Women on Twitter (Business Insider, 2014). She’s been included in the longlist of Computer Weekly’s Most Influential Women in Tech in the UK (2017, 2018 & 2019).

Kristina Maurer is a cultural producer, exhibition developer and curator with a background in Cultural Studies, Media and Art Theory. As the current Head of European Projects in Ars Electronica’s Festival/Prix/Exhibitions department she produces workshops, events, discursive formats, exhibitions and new hybrid, digital formats together with a network of over 80 European partner institutions. Her research interests focus on the social, political and societal implications of new technologies, the evolution of digital cultures as well as current developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, material studies and biotechnology.

Maxwell Mutanda is a multi-disciplinary researcher, designer and visual artist whose meticulously detailed data visualisations, collages and architectural practice promote sustainable participatory design.

He is a cofounder of the design research firm Studio [D] Tale that explores social and environmental issues across disciplines including urbanisation, transit, migration and product innovation. Maxwell studied Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He has exhibited at institutions worldwide including the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Copenhagen), the Arc en Rêve Centre d’Architecture (Bordeaux), the 2014 and 2016 Venice Architecture Biennales and the 2015 Chicago Architecture Biennial.

Kay Watson is a researcher, producer and curator working with art and advanced technologies, photography and video games. She is currently Head of Arts Technologies at Serpentine and a PhD researcher at Birkbeck, University of London.

Recent projects include Artist Worlds (2021), Sophia Al-Maria, Tosh Basco and Kelsey Lu, Tarax’sup? (2020) Jakob Kudsk Steensen, The Deep Listener (2019) and Catharsis (2020); Hito Steyerl, Actual Reality OS (2019); Suzanne Treister, From SURVIVOR (F) to The Escapist BHST (Black Hole Spacetime) (2019); Jenna Sutela, I Magma (2019); Ian Cheng, BOB and Emissaries (2018) and The Serpentine Podcast (2018-21).
