Artist residency programme
A multidisciplinary, hybrid residency bringing together an international cohort of artists and technologists.
May - October 2023
Immersive Assembly Vol 3 is an innovative artist development programme for early-career digital artists, producers and creators, supported by the Jerwood Developing Artists Fund and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. A multi-disciplinary residency focused on learning, peer critique and developing new ideas/work inspired by immersive art & tech, bringing together a cohort of artists, technologists and cultural influencers to learn, share, network and play.
Immersive Assembly Vol 3: ‘Truth & Testimony’ will explore the new affordances immersive media offers for autonomous interrogation and interpretation of flows of information through Extended Reality (XR), and other hybrid encoded spaces.
Whether we are searching for information or creating content, websites and apps streamline our experiences, making it easy to produce and manipulate media and get the answers we want. As these applications also blur the boundaries between personal and global spaces, the ways in which we trust, verify and process their streams of content become more complex. Single-purpose media devices, like traditional cameras, can be more clearly recognised and understood as both creative devices and tools of documentation and surveillance. But where do aesthetics, senses and instincts come into play when one device can promise to find or produce anything?

The Jerwood Developing Artists Fund is a dedicated fund from Jerwood Arts to support arts organisations to deliver transformative early-career artist development programmes across the UK. Jerwood Arts is the leading independent funder dedicated to supporting early-career UK artists, curators and producers to develop and thrive. We enable transformative opportunities for individuals across art forms, supporting imaginative awards, bursaries, fellowships, projects, programmes and commissions. We are committed to supporting artistic freedom of expression and being as inclusive as possible across all our work. We present new work and bring people from across the arts together through our exhibitions and events at Jerwood Space, London, as well as across the UK and online.
The Glasshouse is an international music centre for the North. The charity presents world-class music of all genres in the North East, develops children and young people’s skills and confidence, supports emerging artists and is a place where communities come together. The scale of its artistic, learning and artist development activity places The Glasshouse amongst the UK’s largest cultural organisations, while reaching a very socially and economically diverse audience. As a charity, the support The Glasshouse receives helps to ensure everyone in the community can experience the joy of music. The iconic building, designed by renowned architects Foster + Partners, is home to Royal Northern Sinfonia and is a place where emerging artists are nurtured through dedicated programmes and festivals.
