Return Workshop #4: Jamaica Society, Leeds — York Mediale

Return Workshop #4: Jamaica Society, Leeds

6:00pm - 9:00pm

The Jamaica Society, Chapeltown Road, Potternewton, Leeds, UK

Join us for a fourth and final drop-in workshop to help shape the next iteration of Akeelah Bertram’s artwork Return followed by a music performance by Thabo Mkwananzi and Aron Kyne.

Return began as an interactive installation in 2019 and has since evolved into a web-based artwork that will capture contributions from people around the world. Return seeks to investigate how we can facilitate meaningful connections across the globe, reflecting on the lived experiences of the African diaspora.

Through a series of drop-in workshops, participants will create a rich resource of stories, ideas and provocations around shared cultural and social heritage. These conversations will inform a series of four podcasts produced and broadcast by Sable Radio in Leeds in early 2023.

Drop in anytime between 6-9pm to experience the work-in-progress, have your say (and be recorded by Sable Radio if you’d like to contribute to the podcasts!).

There will be a special music performance at 7pm by Thabo Mkwananzi and Aron Kyne, who are producing the sound design for the web-based artwork.

Return is produced by Mediale and supported by Arts Council England, the University of Leeds and the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust.

Drinks and refreshments will be provided. For the best experience, we recommend bringing your own earphones/headphones.
