Dance & Digital: Professional Development Day with Alexander Whitley Dance Company
9:30am - 2:00pm
River Mills Ballroom, Ousegate, Selby, UK
Alexander Whitley Dance Company – in partnership with Mediale and York & North Yorkshire Dance Network are offering ten York and North Yorkshire based artists a £50 bursary to support their participation in the first of a series of workshops, testing AWDC’s new Digital Dance Studio (DDS) prototype. The DDS is a bespoke software application that allows users to create choreographic compositions within a digital 3D space, exploring spatial and temporal patterns of movement from a choice of avatars, abstract visuals and music.
Designed to help users explore complex choreographic ideas without the need for studio space or multiple dancers, this pioneering digital toolkit unlocks possibilities that may otherwise be unreachable. It allows a new creative approach to movement composition and introduces the fundamentals of thinking about performance design in a digital space.
This unique workshop will offer participants the opportunity to develop their choreographic thinking and enhance their practice and teaching using the DDS tool. Participation in the workshop will contribute significantly to the development of the DDS prototype and participants will receive ongoing support should they want to continue using the tool.
As spaces are limited, we are requesting that you send an expression of interest (max 500 words) explaining why you are interested in taking part, what your experience of dance and technology is and how the workshop could benefit your ongoing practice. AWDC are hoping this will be the start of a series of workshops developing this project. Please send your EOI and any queries to education@alexanderwhitley.com by Wednesday 21st December at 12pm.
