Dan Whibley — York Mediale

Dan Whibley

Daniel Whibley is a professional double bass player, composer and arranger, working with many of the UK’s leading orchestras. In 2011 Daniel joined the BBC Philharmonic which regularly commissions music from him for family concerts, documentaries and CBeebies.

In addition to writing for the BBC Philharmonic, Daniel also writes for Carrot Productions, a production company he and his wife, Rachel, founded in 2014. Daniel’s music is heard live by around 30,000 – 60,000 people each year as part of Carrot Productions’ Snowman Tour and Wallace & Gromit In Concert.

In 2018 Daniel was commissioned by Aardman to produce scores and parts for all four Wallace & Gromit films. It proved to be an interesting project as sometimes only limited handwritten notes and cues from the original film sessions existed. Aardman also commissioned him to create additional material for Wallace & Gromit In Concert, and more recently to create a brand new Shaun The Sheep live show to tour the world.

Daniel’s arranging skills were in high demand during lockdown, notably for the BBC Philharmonic’s #BBCPhilatHome initiative, including orchestral arrangements of Irving Berlin’’s Easter Parade, and a 48-hour challenge for BBC Radio 3D, Bowie’s Sound and Vision for BBC 6Music, and a Tom Jones Medley for BBC Radio 2.
