TANG

Summary

A journey into the Tang Dynasty to explore dance and friendship in a parallel VR World.

Combining costume, dance, mobile gaming and virtual reality, TANG invites audiences to witness a dance competition that spans multiple locations and time periods. The audience begin their immersive journey dressing as key characters from within the VR world, donning costumes and VR headsets within masks. They are then led into a performance space where virtual and real dance choreography tells a time-travelling story about Chinese culture and history. Observing in VR then interacting through a mobile app, the audience become the judges of this dance competition, searching for the best dancer to honour the Thousand Autumn festival.

TANG was created as a collaboration between artists from China and the UK.

– Myriam Achard – Head of New Media, Phi Centre

‘I would like to do this experience, it sounds really fun’, ‘caught my imagination’.
– Ruthie Doyle – Head of Interdisciplinary Program, Sundance Institute
