We are delighted to announce a new winter arts programme co-curated with the local community as part of our Selby Creates initiative, featuring workshops, participatory installations, and live performance in our new home, Selby. This new programme will offer a unique opportunity for both professional artists and young and emerging creatives to work alongside and experiment with cutting edge international artists across music, digital art, and dance. Partnering with Selby College and other schools, up to 30 of the district’s most promising young creatives will take part.
The programme includes People We Love Selby with Kit Monkman, Inner Horizons with Cat Scott, a one-off concert with Richard Dawson, Virtual Dance Studio with Alexander Whitley Dance Company and Creative Coding with Antonio Roberts, a curated celebration of people, creativity and digital art in Selby.
Selby Creates will engage a wide range of artists, creatives, cultural organisations and businesses, in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. This has been developing in the background through tons of conversations, explorations, feasibility work, support for bids, ideas and plans, and advocacy further afield.
Why Selby Creates?
“Since moving to Selby in January 2022 we have connected with a wide range of partners including the local council, artists, arts organisations, young people and charities, to explore how we can support cultural development in the area. We are now working with our new neighbours to co-curate this exciting series of art works and cultural engagement which celebrates Selby’s creative community, and points towards what we’re building as Selby’s first ever NPO.”
